Society today

Many people grow up in today's society always being told what to do, and always answering for others. Few are picking up the sword and carving their own paths. And frankly that's sad to see.

Now a day's all we see are people who take orders from others, and people who expect to be given everything in life. Everyone hears the old joke growing up "Do you want to flip burgers for the rest of your life?", but now that is the case with many teenagers. A good number of them get jobs at McDonald's or Burger King and never grow out of it. Our society now is molded around "What's the most I can get with the least amount of work", and there needs to be a serious change in the attitudes of our youth.

We don't see youth dreaming of being astronauts, the next president, or really just dreaming. Many of them just choose to play video games and be lazy. They expect for their parents to provide for them as long as possible, and when they finally have to move out, they finally do. They aren't choosing to go to college, or get a high paying job, no that's too much work. They just want to smoke weed, get drunk, and get the most out of their youth before they have to put on big boy pants. The issue is their big boy pants are what used to be the last generations teenager pants. And this causes a serious issue with where our society is headed.

Due to the lack of motivation by our youth, our society is not headed in the direction as hoped. I'm not saying there aren't youth out there who still dream, and are still motivated to go far in life. There are many that still do. But the increase in our youth that are not motivated is much higher than the ones who are. As a high school student I get to watch our societies youth from a first person view, and I do see many programs that are out there to encourage students to go far in life. But those programs are always viewed as either for the "nerds", or boring. I think the area in which the most progress could be made would be in our schools, and with our teachers. As a student I have had teachers who are very inspirational, but I've also had teachers who prefer to not even be at school. Many of them just hand out a packet and then sit on their computer or cell phone, and watch the clock just like the students for when they can leave. The teachers who are inspirational always try to push their students to their maximum potential, and encourage them in positive directions with life. We need more of them.

We need more teachers to become role models and inspirations to our youth. This will encourage our students to go far in life, and chase a good future. As a society, we need our youth to start taking responsibility, and even though it can be more challenging, carve their own paths.
